Plans are afoot, both at Voluntary Centre Services, and across the country for events to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.

Ashcroft Road Park in Gainsborough will play host to an afternoon of entertainment on Thursday 2nd June, including traditional outdoor games such as a sack race, three legged race and egg & spoon as well as a coconut shy and other large outdoor games. A fancy dress competition will run for the best dressed king and queen, and you’ll have the opportunity to make your own crown at the craft stalls. Local community organisations are invited to showcase their programmes with a small number of stalls available.

Activities include:

  • Traditional outdoor games & races on the green including egg & spoon, sack race, 3-legged race, skittles, Jenga, connect
  • Medals and prizes for race winners.
  • Variety of stalls: coconut shy, stocks with sponges, face painting.
  • Make a crown (and take home) stall – prize for best crown
  • Fancy dress competition – come in royal attire and win a prize for best outfit.  Best dressed King & Queen prizes
  • New name for park unveiled

Residents will be able to access hot food and drinks just across the road at x-church café, which will be holding a garden tea party alongside the event.

The event begins at 2pm with the unveiling of a new name for the park, and residents are invited to cast their vote ahead of the event via an online form:

Running during Volunteers’ Week 1-7 June) the event, is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the continued efforts to improve and enhance the park as well as attract new prospective volunteers to the site.
