Lincolnshire’s Living With and Beyond Cancer Programme

Lincolnshire West CCG has the ambition that every person in Lincolnshire with a cancer diagnosis be offered support during their cancer journey.

There are currently 2.5 million people in the UK living with cancer, this is expected to rise to 4 million by 2030. Cancer survival is at its highest ever, with significant improvements made in the last 15 years, and people are now twice as likely to survive at least 10 years after being diagnosed with cancer than they were at the start of the 1970s

In Lincolnshire alone, with an ageing population and with these improvements in diagnosis, treatment and aftercare there are currently 23500 people living with and beyond cancer and this is expected to rise to 45400 by 2030.

There is significant evidence to support the positive impact of the ‘recovery model’ on people living with and beyond cancer, however in Lincolnshire the provision of integrated services that raise awareness of cancer, facilitate holistic care, support people during diagnosis and treatment, and enable people to recover after treatment and move into ‘survivorship’ is underdeveloped, as is support for people (and their carers and families) transitioning from acute services into palliative and end of life care.

Macmillan Cancer Support have funded a three year programme to address these issues in Lincolnshire, and develop an integrated system which will support people affected by cancer from pre-diagnosis, into survivorship and into palliative and end of life care, and for families and carers, beyond end of life.

The CCG team would like to harness the considerable energy of your professional and personal experience, and invite you to influence the development of services to support people living with and beyond cancer in our county. We would be delighted if you could join us for our development event:
