Voluntary Centre Services often receive enquiries from young people, under the age of 18, who are interested in giving their time to help their community.
With careful planning and support, engaging younger volunteers could greatly benefit community groups as well as enable young people to enjoy a positive first experience of volunteering.
Volunteers could help with any appropriate role, but previously popular activities have included admin, catering, running groups for older people, activities for children, conservation/environment, animals, research, marketing and social media…
Wednesday afternoons are particularly popular timeslots with sixth-form and college students who are usually able to offer 1-2 hours each week. Additionally we would like to hear from organisations willing to involve volunteers working towards their Duke of Edinburgh award, which can now be pursued from age 13+ at a commitment of 60 minutes per week.
We are therefore very keen to hear from voluntary sector organisations who are keen to involve young people in positive, productive and meaningful tasks while providing them with the appropriate support.
To discuss developling youth activities, or to pass on the role description for us to register your volunteering opportunity please contact your local office or Kate Brophy on Kate.Brophy@voluntarycentreservices.org.uk or 01427 613470.
