Following the 2020 LEADER grant call for eligible rural businesses and organisations, Lincolnshire County Council are pleased to announce a further opportunity to support the rural economy.

Lincolnshire County Council is launching a Rural Business Grant, developed by the Council to support existing rural businesses to purchase capital equipment that will help them respond to the challenging trading environment caused by COVID-19.

There will be a two stage application process with the Expression of Interest window open to applicants between 9am on 8 March 2021 and 6pm on 17 March 2021. The application window may close early, if they receive grant requests exceeding the amount of grant funding available.

Businesses can apply for between £3,000 and up to £25,000 grant towards a maximum of 75% of the total project cost. Projects must be completed within 90 days of the award of funding.

They are particularly keen to support businesses that provide essential services benefiting their local community including village shops, post offices, pubs and other retail. Although projects should contribute to at least one of the following:

  • Diversification opportunities resulting in a new product or service
  • Adapting to COVID-19 challenges and needs
  • Becoming sustainable by updating physical infrastructure
  • Developing and expanding sustainable rural tourism offers.

To be eligible to apply you must be an existing small or micro business, or constituted group with a dedicated business/organisation bank account, you must be located in Lincolnshire with the project taking place in a rural area (this equates to a population of less than 20,000 people, a postcode checker is included in the Expression of Interest form to check eligibility).

Further details can be found on the link below, or click here.  The Expression of Interest form will be available to complete on the 8th March. Successful applicants will be invited to submit a Full Application on the 19th March and will have 4 weeks to submit it.

Unlike LEADER funding, agricultural and horticultural businesses are not eligible to apply, unless there is a clearly defined diversification into another sector, such as retail or tourism, OR a clear response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Farming and horticultural equipment will not be supported with grant funding.

All queries must be submitted direct to this email account:

If your project is ineligible for this scheme you may be able to access an alternative support via Lincolnshire County Council Grant , whilst business advice and support is also available at which includes a grant and support finder.
