The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has re-launched as the National Lottery Heritage Fund and re-packaged its grants. Although there are no grants specifically for parks there is now a strong emphasis on funding access to nature, and ‘natural and designed landscapes’. The HLF has been the major source of funding for improvements to UK parks in the last 20 years and has sometimes been criticised for its focus on restoring traditional parks to their original designs rather than helping all types of green space adapt to future climates and communities. The new funding streams seem more likely to support applications for funding a range of types of green spaces to increase their potential as multi-functional green infrastructure, not just places for leisure and recreation.
