The Gainsborough Local Access Programme is seeking to appoint a Board member from the local social economy, to contribute to the effective oversight and leadership of a large scale ambitious programme, designed to improve lives and support local social businesses in Gainsborough.

Role: Board Member

Reimbursement: Reasonable expenses will be paid

Term: One year

Location: Gainsborough, Lincolnshire (with flexibility to input virtually)

We are looking for someone with a passion for social enterprise and an understanding of the role it can play in addressing inequalities. It is really important that you can contribute to keeping the programme on track, represent the social economy and champion social regeneration. It would help if you know about the programme, and about Gainsborough, but it is not essential. What is important is that you are passionate about championing commercial strategies in the social economy sector for the primary benefit of Gainsborough, and that you are happy to talk about it.

As a member of the Programme Board you will be making decisions that will support the growth ambitions of local social enterprises and other social economy organisations.

Main Purpose

The main purpose of this role is to:

  • To contribute to the leadership and strategic vision of Gainsborough Local Action Programme
    • To demonstrate accountability for board decision making and programme delivery
    • To maintain the independence of the programme
    • To champion addressing inequalities through social enterprise models

Responsibilities and Duties

Responsibilities include, but are not restricted to:

  • Attending the GLAP Programme Board (currently on a fortnightly basis) in an effective and professional manner
    • Liaison with the Programme Co-ordinator to influence the agenda to meet strategic and delivery objectives
    • Liaison with the Programme Co-ordinator to ensure timely and effective management of GLAP business
    • Contribution to the effectiveness of GLAP decision making, ensuring that GLAP Board meets its responsibilities in terms of agreements, and timely delivery
    • Contribution to ensuring that the Board operates independently of its members, and that any conflicts of interest are identified
    • Contribution to communication and public relations on behalf of the GLAP Board
    • Adherence to confidentiality in respect of the GLAP Board and its members
    • Undertaking any other duties as may be needed from time to time as necessary and appropriate to the role
