Fixed Term Contract

This is a 6-month fixed term position, with the possibility of a further extension

As a BBO support officer, a typical day might include:

•    Working closely with unemployed or economically inactive people to help them on to the road into employment

•    You’ll provide a range of engagement activities and support interventions to help them along their way

•    Working with customers on an individual and group basis, assessing their skills, barriers and challenges to employment and supporting them to overcome these

•    Offering information, advice and guidance so each participant is able to make an informed decision about their future that’s just right for them

•    Helping participants develop SMART action plans to keep them focused and progressing towards their end goal of employment

•    Deliver employability training such as cv workshops, online job search and confidence building

•    Support customers to access further training to improve their employability options

•    Managing a caseload of customers, reviewing their progress and ensuring we deliver to the targets of the project

•    Working closely with a wide range of other local support services to ensure we can offer a full and holistic package of support, meeting all participant needs

Your role is all about helping people. You’ll work with participants to support them in realising and achieving their personal aspirations, and ultimately finding sustainable employment. This is a really rewarding role that can make a real difference to the lives of many.

The must haves: 

•    A good standard of education, including maths and English

•    Level 3 in Information, advice and guidance 

•    A minimum of two years’ experience supporting people in a similar way, including with employability and mental health needs 

•    Knowledge of the local labour market

•    A genuine commitment to the personal and occupational success of the long term unemployed

•    Ability to work as a team, under pressure and in a fast-paced environment

•    A good understanding of the barriers faced by unemployed and inactive people, and the solutions that may be able to benefit them

•    Ability to work collaboratively with others, whether in the same team or external support providers

•    Be a positive, energised and enthusiastic person, with a real zest for helping others

•    Engaging and supporting people is what gets you up every day

•    Nothing makes you happier than seeing someone progress, knowing you helped them get there

•    Resilience

The added extras:

•    L3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS)

•    Experienced in delivering support through funded contracts experience of European social fund would be a benefit

•    Experience of supporting people with a wide range of needs for example debt, addiction, disability, etc

•    Being adept at change, having got hands on experience living and breathing new ways of working and knowing how to bring your colleagues along for the experience
